Vitae

J. Grau received his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he majored in molecular biology and psychology. At Colorado, he worked with Dr. Steve Maier from 1977-1981. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania in 1985, working with Dr. Robert Rescorla. He also benefited from the mentorship of P. Rozin, D. Kemler-Nelson, M. Seligman, R. Solomon, and R. Gallistel.

Dr. Grau then went to the University of North Carolina as a Visiting Assistant Professor, where he worked with M. Meagher and Dr. M. Gallagher. He was recruited to A&M in 1987 and is currently a professor in both psychology and neuroscience. His research has been funded (since 1986) by NSF, NIDA, NIMH and NINDS. He was among the first to receive a University Faculty Fellow Award at A&M and currently holds the Mary Tucker Currie Professorship in Liberal Arts.

J. Grau is married to M. Meagher and they have two children, Alex (19) and Katherine (16). Dr. Meagher is also a professor in Psychology and Neuroscience. Alex is currently attending New York University where he is majoring in computer science and mathematics. Katherine is a junior in high school and is highly involved with the debate team.
